A further five people have tested positive for coronavirus on Teesside.

Figures from Public Health England have shown that there have been slightly more cases confirmed.

Despite the slight rise, no further cases have been recorded in Middlesbrough, with the total figure there remaining at 1,216.

Hartlepool and Stockton both confirmed two more Covid-19 cases with Redcar and Cleveland recording one.

An extensive air, sea and shoreline search took place yesterday evening after a report of a person disappearing into the sea.

Both RNLI lifeboats from Redcar were launched just after 8.15pm last night to search between Redcar and the South Gare at the entrance to the River Tees.

UK Coastguard teams and Cleveland Police officers conducted a shoreline search and the Coastguard helicopter from Humberside was brought in to assist.

The search was called off at 10pm after the area was thoroughly checked and no reports of missing persons were received by Cleveland Police.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision involving a male cyclist and a taxi vehicle.

The incident occurred at the junction of Borough Road and Union Street in Middlesbrough at 6:20am this morning, Monday 14th September.

The male cyclist suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police via the non-emergency number 101.
