A man has been questioned by police after armed officers attended a reported hostage situation in Grangetown at the weekend.

A large police operation was carried out on Bangor Close, off Tawney Road, after reports on Sunday afternoon.

Cleveland Police later confirmed armed police were called to a reports of an individual in possession of a firearm.

A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and was taken into police custody.

Police say that their enquiries are continuing.

 

Another vehicle has become stuck on a beach in our area, a week after a Transit van became trapped at Redcar.

A blue Volkswagen Golf appeared to have its front wheels trapped in the sand on the beach at Marske yesterday evening.

Four men were seen surrounding the car at around 6pm, attempting to release the vehicle from the sand ahead of the approaching high tide at 9pm.

It's understood the vehicle was eventually freed from the sand and was towed from the beach by a BMW vehicle, just after 7pm.

 

Police are appealing for information following a report of a serious assault in Middlesbrough on Friday.

The incident in the Albert Road area, near to the junction with Corporation Road, is thought to have happened between midnight and 1am.

A man in his 30s sustained significant injuries.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information or dash cam footage which could assist detectives is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
