A man has been arrested in connection with a number of reports of thefts from motor vehicles in the Marske and Redcar areas.

Over three nights in the past week, police have received reports of around 20 thefts from motor vehicles in Marske and Redcar.

Yesterday morning officers arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with the incidents and he was taken into police custody.

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to these incidents.

Officers are reminding members of the public not to leave valuable items on display in their vehicles, as this could attract thieves.

Police have said that they are no longer investigating a report of rape which was reported to have happened on Redcar High Street.

As we reported on Zetland FM, the incident was alleged to have happened in the early hours of Wednesday on Redcar High Street near to the Blue Lounge, with the victim being supported by specially trained officers.

However officers say that a 26-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of rape has now been released without charge.

A new special needs school for 100 children from across our area is set to be built in Redcar and Cleveland.

The River Tees Multi-Academy Trust today announced it will set up the school in partnership with Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton councils.

It will serve 100 young people with special needs, aged five to 18, and is due to open in 2022.

The trust says that the location for the new school will be announced in the coming months.

If planning permission is granted, it is due to open in 2022.
