A permanent covid-19 testing facility is finally set to open in our area.

A regional test site will be based at the empty Sainsbury's supermarket in the Middlehaven area of Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald called for the site to be considered last month, while Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen had identified the large site as a potential base to help in the coronavirus fight.

Before now, the nearest permanent sites for Teesside were based in Gateshead, Penrith and York, with a mobile testing site set up at Redcar Racecourse.

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Middlesbrough.

The incident occurred at around 7.15 on Tuesday evening on Chipchase Road and into Ayresome Park Road when a green coloured 4x4 type of vehicle pulled up next to the victim and three males got out of the car and assaulted the 38 year old victim with weapons.

Two of the men were wearing balaclavas and a third male who had blonde hair threatened the victim with a knife.

The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with private CCTV or dash cam footage to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision in which a cyclist suffered a suspected broken leg.

The collision occurred at around 9.54am on Albert Road, in Middlesbrough yesterday, and involved a brown delivery truck and a male cyclist in his 30s.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw the cyclist in the Albert Road area prior to this incident to contact them.
