The total number of reported Coronavirus cases in our area has shown another slight increase since yesterday, according to official figures.

According to the latest figures published yesterday by Public Health England, there have now been 410 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.

That figure has increased from 406 confirmed cases since yesterday.

There are have been 668 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, that figure has also risen slightly, up from 667 yesterday.

 

A man who jumped off Saltburn Pier for recreational purposes found himself in trouble in the water.

Redcar Coastguard Rescue Team were called to the man's rescue on Bank Holiday Monday at 5.45pm.

However, upon arrival, members of the public had used one of the life buoys on the pier to pull him back towards the shore.

The man was taken care of by the police as the team assessed the physical condition of the casualty.

As team members were replacing the buoy on the pier, they were tasked by the coastguard operations room to a jet ski potentially in trouble in the Marske area.

The team search the coastline with nothing found and talked to people who had jet skis out at Lime Road Slipway in Redcar where nothing untoward was found.

 

Police have arrested a man and woman after a drugs raid in our area.

A warrant was executed on Venables Road, in Guisborough, on Friday morning.

Officers from teams including the local neighbourhood team, operational support and dog unit were involved, and successfully removed suspected drugs and weapons.

A large amount of cash and several weapons were seized from the address alongside suspected class C drugs.

A 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class C drugs.

The man was taken into police custody at this time while the woman was released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
