The number of Coronavirus cases in our area has remained static since yesterday.
According to the latest figures published yesterday evening by Public Health England, there are currently 10 confirmed cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.
There are currently 9 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, a figure which has also remained static since yesterday.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has closed its seafront carparks in response to the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Following a request from Cleveland Police, the car park at Majuba Road in Redcar, the coast road car park between Redcar and Marske, and the Pier and Cat Nab car parks in Saltburn have been closed to prevent people congregating and to instead encourage the following of the Government’s social distancing advice.
The council was informed by the police that visitors, some from as far away as Sunderland, had been congregating at the coast, posing a risk of the further spread of Covid-19.
Drivers are advised a planned closure of a major road in our area has been temporarily postponed.
The third of four full weekend closures of the southbound A19 for maintenance on the Tees Viaduct was due to run from this evening until Monday morning.
However a delay in the delivery of materials means the southbound closure will now be rescheduled.
The full weekend northbound closure planned for 17 – 20 April is still due to take place, weather permitting.
Drivers will be able to follow clearly-signed diversions.
