The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI lifeboats were called into action in our area yesterday.

Just after 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon Redcar RNLI were tasked by the coastguard Humber operations room at Bridlington to reports of persons cut off by the tide at Huntcliff in Saltburn.

The casualties were recovered by the inshore lifeboat in arduous conditions and brought to the Ship Inn slipway where they were warmed up and cared for by the team prior to the arrival of North East Ambulance Service.

Luckily apart from being cold and wet the casualties are described as being in good shape.

The coastguard is advising the public to check the tide times before setting off on walks along the beach, as the tide can move in very fast.

If you see anyone in trouble on the beach or cliffs DIAL 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

A weather warning for snow and flooding has been issued for our area.

Temperatures have dropped overnight with sleet and heavy rain expected to lead to possible traffic disruption today.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for North-east England last through until 3 o'clock this afternoon.

The warning warns there may be possible travel delays on the roads, with possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

A local lad from Redcar has finished in third place on the ITV show 'Love Island'.

Since going in as a late arrival a few weeks into the new series, Redcar lad Luke Mabbot has been a form favourite with many viewers, with a number of memes dedicated to him and the fact he deserved to win.

Luke hasn't have the easiest of times in the villa, with the path of true love not running smoothly at all after knock backs from Jess and Natalia before finding a spark with Demi after Nas dumped her.

However last night on the final, it was announced that Luke and Demi had placed third.
