Police have arrested a man following an incident in Eston in which a homeless man was allegedly assaulted.

Yesterday afternoon police arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of assault and criminal damage following an alleged incident near Tesco Express on Eston High Street on Sunday 9th September, which left 32-year-old Michael Cash covered in paint.

Just days later, on Wednesday, September 12, Mr Cash was found dead in Eston Cemetery.

However on Friday, September 14, police said they were not linking the alleged assault with his death.

The man has now been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI was called into action last night.

Just after ten to eleven yesterday evening, crews responded following reports of a person in the sea at Redcar.

However the person was rescued by other people who were in the area at the time, and the lifeboat was stood down before launching.

Drivers are once again being warned to ensure that their vehicle is fully insured if it is being used on the roads in our area.

Yesterday evening officers from the East Cleveland Neighbourhood Police Team seized a black Ford Focus for having no insurance after it was seen driving into Liverton Mines.

Posting on their Facebook page, officers from the team advised the public not to drive your car if you do not have the correct documents, otherwise they will take your car from you.
