A national campaign aimed at motorcycle safety is being launched across Cleveland and Durham from Monday.
The week-long campaign, which urges bikers to stay safe on roads across Cleveland and Durham, looks to raise awareness and educate road users and riders generally on how to improve driver and rider behaviour which in turn reduces the number of fatal and serious collisions on our roads.
Motorcyclists remain one of the most vulnerable road users, accounting for 18% of all road deaths in the UK during 2016.
Across Cleveland and Durham, there have been four fatal motorcycle collisions to date this year, compared to two in 2017.
The launch of the campaign ties in with the Bank Holiday weekend, which is traditionally a busier time on the roads.
Hotels and bed and breakfasts in Saltburn, Guisborough, Loftus and Redcar town centres are being invited to apply for grant funding from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council in order to increase the number of quality bed spaces available for visitors to the popular tourist towns.
The 'Welcome to' fund provides assistance to hoteliers and B&B owners to create more guest bedrooms by providing up to £5,000 per new bed space.
The scheme is in recognition of a need to improve the overnight offer in the borough.
