The Eston Hills Action Group is being given a first-hand look at how Cleveland Fire Brigade tackles deliberate fires in the area.

Later this week, members have been invited to go on-board the Brigade’s special off-road appliance called UNIMOG which is based at Grangetown Fire Station, to see what work is being done to combat arson attacks.

In the year up to March 2018, there were fifty three deliberate fires on the Eston Hills. Although there's been a slight reduction for April and May 2018, to date, Cleveland Fire Brigade has still attended 13 fires over the two months which were caused deliberately, which is down from 29 last year.

Some of the prevention measures introduced include new barriers and gates across paths to prevent vehicular access, Educational visits to local schools and youth clubs and a clampdown on illegal off roading.

Following the announcement that the Trump administration will not exempt the UK from 25% tariffs on steel and 10% on aluminium imports in to the United States, Labour MP for Redcar Anna Turley has called on the UK Government to fully support countermeasures being pursued by the EU.

Speaking in the Commons this week, she challenged the International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox to support retaliation, especially she says, after what happened with SSI when Chinese imports began to flood the UK market.

Now, did you know there is such a thing as a Happy List on Teesside?

Well, the Gazettes Teesside Live has named 18 individuals or organisations that are unsung heroes among us from across the region - and there's a few from our area too - including Sharron Baldam from Whale Hill Primary Scout Group, Dominic Yeates from the Jet petrol station in Marske, Lorna Jackson from Saltburn Farmers Market, the Nunthorpe Knitters, Kinga Pusztai the Headteacher from Newcomen Primary in Redcar, Stuart Myers from Marske, the Friends of Redcar and the dancing Cleveland Police Sergeant Jon Hutchinson.

Well done to them all!
