Redcar's Regent Cinema has been forced to close its doors after structural issues were found with the building.

A routine condition survey of cinema has highlighted some structural issues with the building and in the interests of the safety of the public the cinema has been forced to temporarily close pending further investigations.

Preliminary works and a structural survey will begin immediately in order to fully investigate the extent of the problem.

However during the investigation and reporting period the building will be closed to the public.

In a joint statement issued yesterday, the Regent's Manger, Neil Bates and the Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Council, Councillor Sue Jeffrey said that they remain committed to working together to secure the long-term future of the cinema which is a key and unique asset for the area and they will do everything they can to re-open it for the summer season.

Heavy rain caused problems on roads in our area yesterday.

Drains on Saltburn Road, near to The Ship Inn in Saltburn, struggled to cope with the persistent rain yesterday.

By mid-morning, the road was underwater, and was only passable with care.

Standing water on other routes in East Cleveland also made driving conditions tricky, and motorists are advised to take extra care on their journeys.

Police measures to reduce antisocial behaviour in Saltburn are making an impact in the town.

Since the dispersal order was put in place on Monday, police have had no reports of antisocial behaviour.

Neighbourhood Officers from Saltburn are continuing to conduct high visibility foot and mobile patrols in the area.

Members are encouraged to approach the officers who are patrolling the streets, particularly with any concerns or issues they would like to raise.

Anyone with information regarding anti-social behaviour in the Saltburn area is asked to call Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
