The volunteers from the Redcar RNLI were called into action at the weekend.

The crew from the Redcar RNLI lifeboat station responded to a call for help from the UK Coastguard when a man sustained leg and other injuries after falling from steps leading onto the beach at Redcar yesterday.

After a brief search of the beach the man, who was a 71-year-old visiting from out of the area, was found approximately 100 metres from the lifeboat station.

When the casualty care team arrived they found the man had sustained a nasty dislocation to his knee, as well as other very painful injuries to his shoulder and wrist.

The RNLI volunteers, who are trained to administer casualty care, were able to assess the man’s injuries and gave him pain-relief gas.

They then assisted an ambulance crew who were sent to the scene to treat him prior to placing him in the stretcher and carrying him to the ambulance.

The man, in his mid-20s, was described as being “unconscious but breathing” when he was found outside Aruba nightclub on Redcar High Street, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Ambulance crews arrived at around 4.35am and took the man to James Cook University Hospital.

The man’s current condition is not known.

Police in East Cleveland have once again seized the vehicles of uninsured drivers.

Officers from the Guisborough Neighbourhood Policing Team from Guisbrough seized 4 vehicles at the weekend, two cars and two motorbikes.

All the vehicles had no insurance and had been reported to police for being driven in a dangerous manner over the previous few days.

Police are repeating the message that if you have a car or bike which is not insured, think of others before you start the engine and do not drive it, as it will be taken from you.
