A unique charity set up to inspire young people’s career choices and showcase opportunities in maritime-related careers has celebrated five successful years helping close to 6,000 young people in Teesside.

The High Tide Foundation recently celebrated its fifth birthday at a special dinner with over 150 supporters and advocates of the Charity in attendance.

Held at Rockliffe Hall, the event celebrated the fantastic results High Tide has achieved for the region’s young people and the Foundation’s supporting members since launching in 2012.

The evening raised an incredible £9,000, which will be invested in to ensuring the sustainability and growth of High Tide’s unique educational programmes.

Hosting the event was Managing Director of Trinity Mirror North East, Bob Cuffe, and he was joined on stage by High Tide’s Chairman, David Robinson and Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen.

The 6th Tees Valley Skills Event, which was held at Teesside University was bigger than ever with a significant number of employers and learning providers showcasing a wealth of opportunities for young people seeking careers advice and guidance in the region.

The Tees Valley Skills Event took place at the Olympia Building at Teesside University and offered hands-on interactive activities from a range of employers, universities, colleges, learning providers, with 14-18 year olds from across the area in attendance.

Hosted by Tees Valley Combined Authority, in partnership with North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP), Teesside University and Tees Valley Learning Provider Network, it is one of the largest events of its kind in the area.

Employers and learning providers exhibit at the event to meet their potential future workforce and demonstrate the skills and qualifications needed to build a career in a number of different sectors.

This year, 2,000 young people attended to speak to more than 75 different employers or learning providers about their career options.

A number of local employers exhibited at the event including, British Steel, EDF, EE, Elringklinger, Hart Biologics, JDR Cables, Nifco, Royal Navy, Sembcorp and Sirius Minerals to name but a few.

Anyone looking to test their running skills have a few days left to submit their entry to join more than 1000 others at the Redcar Half Marathon, with an events village set to provide a host of fun events for spectators.

Starting at Tuned In! and going along the seafront towards Marske and coming with a small section on the Trunk Road, the flat route should see runners setting personal bests on the 13 mile course.

In addition to the Half Marathon, there is also an events village based at Tuned In! with a range of musicians, demonstrations, competitions and performances on the main stage promising something for all the family.
