Police are appealing for witnesses to an altercation between a man and a young girl sometime between 10.30pm and 11.30pm Tuesday on the coast road between Marske and Redcar (opposite the junction with Salisbury Grove).

It is believed a 40-year-old man attacked the girl who appeared to be around 16 years of age, 5’5” tall, of slight build with long brown hair and a tanned complexion and was wearing a light coloured hooded with a longer top underneath down to the knee and leggings .

A 23-year-old male witness interjected to stop the attack and was also assaulted. The girl ran off at this point and the attacker made off after attacking the witness in the direction of the Stray Café.

He is described as around 40 years of age and of Asian/Turkish appearance, 5’11” tall and was overweight. He had black slicked back hair and appeared to have unkempt facial hair. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, blue tracksuit trousers with red striping diagonally on the outside of the leg with white trainers

Anyone who witnessed any form of an assault or who may have been in the area at the time is asked to contact police. If anyone was involved in this incident but thinks it may have been mis-interpreted they too are asked to get in touch with police so as they can be eliminated from enquiries.

Police are also appealing for the girl to get in touch to let police know she is safe.
