Representatives from both sides of the political spectrum have been speaking to Zetland FM about the upcoming general election.

Yesterday parliament passed Prime Minister Teresa May's motion for a General Election to take place on Thursday the 8th of June this year.

It's expected to be a hard fought campaign, and already the political parties have begun putting together their plans.

Labour's Anna Turley told Zetland FM that she hopes to continue as the MP for Redcar following the election.

The MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, Tom Blenkinsop announced earlier this week that he was to stand down because he couldn't campaign for Labour whilst Jeremy Corbyn is party leader.

Prospective Conservative candidate Simon Clarke is hoping that he will gain Tom's seat for his party.

You can hear the full interviews with Anna and Simon on Julie Donaldson's programme here on Zetland FM after 10 this morning.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused to a Redcar farm.

The farm at the Granary on Yearby Road in Yearby has been targeted by youths on quad bikes and four by fours.

They've visited the private land several times and have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to crops, fencing and timber.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Heather Coated on non-emergency number 101.

Free blood pressure checks are on offer at Redcar Central Library tomorrow.

The pop-up clinic is a walk-in service for anyone.

Blood pressure checks are carried out by nurses and only take a few minutes.

The event's being held by Saltscar Surgery as part of a national campaign organised by the Stroke Association.

The checks are on offer from half one until half four on the ground floor meeting room at the library.
