A 27 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, causing a public nuisance and affray following a major police incident in Redcar at the weekend;
Officers from Cleveland Police have been praised for their quick response after a toddler went missing on Redcar beach yesterday afternoon;
...and an appeal has been made to trace the owners of a dog which was abandoned at the police station in Redcar on Saturday morning.
A 27 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, causing a public nuisance and affray following a major police incident in Redcar at the weekend.
Police were called to Arthur Street at around ten to elevent on Saturday evening following reports that a man had barricaded himself into a property and was threatening to tamper with the gas supply.
Officers were concerned that there could be a possible gas explosion, and cordoned off surrounding roads including Queen St and Newcomen Terrace.
Arthur Street resident Robert Docherty's family had to be evacuated from their home. He told Zetland FM what happened.
A separate second incident was also declared on Arthur Street after potentially 'hazardous materials' were found at a neighbouring property by officers who were going from house to house to arrange evacuations.
Bomb Disposal officers from Catterick had to be called in to deal with this second incident, however they confirmed that the materials in question were not harmful.
Officers from Cleveland Police have been praised for their quick response after a toddler went missing on Redcar beach yesterday afternoon.
It's reported that the toddler, aged around 18 months old, walked off into the crowds of people who were enjoying the sunshine on Redcar beach whilst his mother was distracted changing another child's nappy.
A Cleveland Police PCSO happened to be at the beach at the time, and once the alarm was raised four more police officers arrived to join in the search for the child.
Eventually the child was found and the police were able to check that he was safe and well before reuniting him with his mum.
An appeal has been made to trace the owners of a dog which was abandoned at the police station in Redcar on Saturday morning.
Police are trying to trace the owners of the abandoned cream Shitzu cross dog which was left at Redcar Town Police Office at about twenty past seven on Saturday morning.
Anyone who has any information in relation to its owners is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference E59888.
