Anna Turley, MP for Redcar, has criticised the Government’s cuts to school funding

Anna says the cuts will see more than £27 million lost from Teesside’s schools by 2020.

She says that schools in our region are facing a real terms funding gap, partly due to changes in the government’s funding formula and rising costs due to inflation.

Speaking in the House of Commons in a debate on the 2017 Budget yesterday, Anna criticised the government.

Police are appealing for information after a burglary occurred at an address on Castlewood in Thorntree in Middlesbrough.

The incident occurred between 11am and 12pm last Thursday the 9th March when a man had been working at the 85-year-old male victim’s property when the victim invited him into his home.

After the man had left, the victim noticed that his wallet which contained £35 had been taken from his property.

It is believed the man working at the victim’s home might be responsible and he is described as being a white male, around 30-years-old and of 5 ft 11” tall and of slim build. He was wearing a blue top and bottoms and carrying cleaning implements and is called ‘Lee’.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Joanne Williams on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

And an inquest has opened into the death of a man whose body was found near Guisborough.

Police and the ambulance service were called to woodland near the Fox and Hounds pub on Sunday the fifth of March after the body of a man was discovered.

And on Friday an inquest was opened in the death of the man now known to be Lee O'Niell from Acklam.

A cordon was put in place as emergency services investigated the area.

However the death is not being treated as suspicious, and the inquest has been adjourned until a later date.
