105FM :: Local Radio for Redcar & Cleveland

Simon was born in Saltburn and has lived in either Redcar or Saltburn all his life. Being part of the team at Zetland FM is the first time he’s been involved in a “proper” radio station but he’s by no means a novice when it comes to being a radio studio. He spent 2 years in the mid-90’s helping set up and running the in-house radio station at Redcar and Cleveland College and he was also a regular as a studio guest on local and national TV and radio for almost ten years as part of his role with the Boro Supporters Club.

He left his role with the Boro behind 15 years ago to move into the civil service but he’s still a massive Boro fan and tries to get to as many Boro games as possible. He also watches the local non-league sides and follows sports such as cricket and Aussie Rules Football.

Music is a big passion for Simon. He loves The Beatles but his tastes run to many other areas and styles. His move to Zetland FM came out of the blue, having seen news stories about the new station and looked at the application form to volunteer  but initially he wasn’t sure which area he’d like to get involved with. A chance to present one of our Zetland FM Tonight shows came along though and he now says it was one of the best decisions he has ever made. He loves working with the team at Zetland FM and says he has met some lovely and interesting people who’ve been through the studios as guests on Zetland FM Tonight. Being a local history buff he particularly enjoys chatting to any guests who come in to chat about anything involving the history of our area,

He grabbed the chance to present the Sunday Breakfast Show when that came along and loves it, despite the early starts on the traditional rest day. Being on a Sunday morning from 7am, Simon believes the content of the show should be fairly chilled out and relaxed but there’s an eclectic mix of everything from Frank Sinatra to your 9am wake up call from the likes of Iron Maiden and ACDC.

He lives by the sea in Redcar with wife Joanne and daughter Leyla, both big fans of the station too.
