On another weekend marred by postponements, Stockton's derby win kept up the pressure on Boro Rangers, who enjoyed cup success.

By Dave Marsay

Once again the weather played havoc with the fixtures, leaving only three matches that were to be played on all weather pitches able to go ahead. In the North Riding County Cup, Wigginton Grasshoppers swapped to Boro Rangers who have the use of the Eston Academy all weather pitch and this paid dividends for the Rangers as they ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Jamie Bellamy and Lewis Colley. This sent them through into the semi-finals with a home game in the February semi against either BEADS or Fishburn Park, whose match was postponed due to frozen pitches and will be played next week, weather permitting.

Two League matches were able to go ahead on all weather pitches. Stockton West End took the lead against Redcar Town through Michael McLoughlin, but Clark Reader made it 1-1 before a brace from the League top scorer, Ben Turner, the second a penalty made it 3-1 at half time. Turner has now scored twenty-eight for the season. Two minutes into the second half Ben Hamilton made it 4-1 with Joe Teasdale making it 5-1 in the 70th minute and Michael Snaith making it a final score of 6-1 with ten minutes remaining. Yarm FC took an early 2-0 lead with a brace from Jamie Dunn when they entertained Billingham FC. Two minutes into the second half, Shaun Laverick who had had a twice taken penalty saved by the Yarm keeper, pulled a goal back to make it 2-1. In the 68th minute, Patrick Robinson, making his debut, made it 2-2 with Laverick giving Billingham a 3-2 lead three minutes later with his second of the match and 9th of the season. With Billingham hanging on to their lead, the pressure told on the Yarm keeper, who was sent off late in the game, allowing Billingham to secure their first victory of the season.
