Stockton & Thornaby Enjoy Cup Progress
With all league matches postponed, attention switched to the three cup games played by Teesside League sides
By Dave Marsay
In the North Riding County Cup, Thornaby Dubliners entertained Eskvale & Cleveland League side Great Ayton United who resigned from the Teesside League last season, in a tight match Anton Buchan and Joe Carter gave the Dubliners a 2-0 lead before Ashley Woodier pulled a goal back to make it a final score of 2-1 to give the Dubliners a place in the February semi-finals, Thirsk Falcons entertained Old Malton St Mary’s in the same competition but bowed out after missing an early penalty, going behind 4-0 at half time, Stuart Rose pulled a goal back to make it 4-1 but Old Malton scored again to make a final score of 5-1 and joined Thornaby Dubliners in the semi-finals, the other two quarter-final matches BEADS v Fishburn and Wigginton Grasshoppers v Boro Rangers will be played next week, weather permitting.
The only other game to take place was in the Durham Trophy quarter-final where Stockton West End twice postponed match against Sunderland Silksworth was transferred to the North Shore Health Academy’s all weather pitch, West End took a second minutes lead through Michael McLaughlin, with Michael Snaith making it 2-0 six minutes later, Terry Adams pulled it back to 2-1 but Jake Large and a second from Snaith gave West End a 4-1 half time lead, a minute into the second half Louis Turnbull pulled it back to 4-2 but further goals from Joe Teasdale four minutes later, Ben Hamilton on the hour and a Ben Turner penalty in the 88th minute made it a final score of 7-2 to West End who are through to the February semi-finals.
