An injury hit Redcar Bears side have been knocked out of the KO cup by the Edinburgh Monarchs, with the score ending 61-29.

With four of the seven riders missing from the team through injury, it was always going to be a tough fixture for the Bears.

Matej Kus carried on his recent form and was top scorer for the bears with 11+1, followed by guest rider Aaron Summers with 8 and Jonas Anderson with 5+1.

Unfortunately though, with the rest of the team found scoring hard and picking up very few points, they struggled to keep themselves in the race.

The loss has come following the announcement of new signing, Dmitri Berge.

Berge joined the Bears with a match average 4.70 from the Glasgow Bears, who he left last month.

Redcar Bears boss, Brian Havelock has admitted he wanted the fixture called off because of the large injury list.

He revealed that he had contacted the Edinburgh side twice trying to call the fixture off but they turned each request down.

Havelock also mentioned that he felt the Monarchs seem happy to "steam roll over everybody".

The Edinburgh press-officer revealed though that as they are still competing in all competitions, there were no free days to move the fixture.

The Bears will continue in the league with three fixture in four days, starting against Glasgow at home on the 6th of August, before an away fixture against Somerset the following day and the away fixture to Glasgow on the 9th of August.
