TEESSIDE LEAGUE: Redcar delight after cup and league success
Redcar celebrated as Newmarket made the last four of the North Riding County Cup and Town took at the Teesside League Second Division summit, on Saturday.
Redcar Newmarket are through to the semi-finals of the North Riding County Cup after coming from behind to beat holders University of York 3-2 with goals from Daniel Puckrin, Craig Skelton and Liam Jackson, they will be joined in the semi-final draw by Thirsk Falcons who beat fellow first division side Thornaby Dubliners 4-1 with goals from Stuart Rose, Josh Boynton, Gareth Barber and Chris Padgett after Gareth Poole had given the Dubliners the lead, but Nunthorpe Athletic who took the lead at Old Malton St Mary’s through John Cairns, went on to lose 4-1.
Redcar Town won 3-2 at Boro Rangers to take over at the top of Division Two, from the Rangers who slipped down to second place, in an entertaining game Peter Snaith gave Boro Rangers a 9th minute lead, Redcar Town were back on level terms at 1-1 in the 20th minute through Sean Mackin, this remained the half time score, Adam Chung gave Redcar Town a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute but an 80th minute penalty from Dean Talukder made it all square at 2-2 but in the 89th minute Mackin with his second of the game secured the victory for Redcar Town, Staithes Athletic won 6-0 at Billingham FC with Luke Weed scoring a hat trick, James Armstrong a brace and Joe Butters making it a final score of 6-0, Guisborough Globe beat Yarm 4-1, Andy Davies and Lewis Reeve gave the Globe a 2-0 half time score, Joe Gibson made it 3-0 on the hour, Joe Dalton pulled it back to 3-1 but Steve Combellack secured the Globe victory, Kader FC secured a hard fought 2-1 victory over Cargo Fleet AFC, Ben Jones and Chris Peacock scored for Kader, Ben Bonner replied for Fleet, Loftus Athletic beat Middleton Rangers 4-3 in an entertaining game with Artur Pela giving Middleton a 2-0 lead after seventeen minutes, Jordan Rowe and Carl Gray made it 2-2 at half time, Rowe gave Loftus the lead for the first time at 3-2 three minutes into the second half and Gary Smithies made it 4-2 with nine minutes remaining, Rafal Kochanski then gave Loftus a scare when he scored his 21st of the season with five minutes remaining, but Loftus hung on to secure the victor, Ben Cotts gave St Mary’s College a 37th minute lead at Redcar Athletic, Ryan Mackey making it 2-0 on the hour before Kyran Clark pulled it back to 2-1 with three minutes remaining but St Mary’s hung on to secure their first victory of the new year.
Only two games in the revamped first division without Northallerton Town Academy survived the weather, Grangetown Boys Club could have moved to within two points of leaders Whinney Banks whose match was abandoned, but lost 1-0 to visitors Richmond Mavericks with Wayne Gredziak scoring the only goal of the match after twenty minutes, North Ormesby drew 3-3 with New Marske, Luke Nicholson gave New Marske a 1-0 half time lead, the same player made it 2-0 in the 59th minute, North Ormesby pulled it back to 2-1 through Dean Harper a minute later, but Luke Johnson looked to have given New Marske a winning 3-1 lead two minutes later, but North Ormesby fought back and goals from Danny Pickering in the 70th minute and Eddie Hebbron ten minutes later made it a final score of 3-3.
