Guisborough Town bounced back from defeat to League Two Hartlepool United, by seeing off Northallerton Town.

By Bill Perfitt

Guisborough Manager Steve Dowling made eight changes to the side which started two days earlier against Hartlepool and it gave him a great opportunity to assess other members of his new-look squad.

In the end Guisborough ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against their Northern League Division Two opponents in what manager ‘Dowlo’ described as “another good workout.”

He commented afterwards: “For tonight's game I made a lot of changes to give me the chance to see other members of the squad get a decent length of time on the pitch against a Northallerton side who tried to play decent football. “It proved another good workout with only Thibault Charmey, Chris Youldon and Jordon Galloway in the same starting line-up against Hartlepool. “The game gave me chance to see other players get minutes on the pitch.

First half was quite even with Joe Ferguson, Matty Pennal and Kyran Clark playing well with good support from Thibault and Chris Youldon. “We went in one up from a good finish by Nathan Evans after good work from Pannel and in the second half we totally dominated the game with Thibault and Chris Youldon creating a number of chances.

“We made several substitutions during second half and kept up the pressure with Jordon Lee and Paul Blake enjoying excellent games. We ran out worthy winners with Jonny Helm being the man of the match for me but special mention to Adrian Beblowski in goal who enjoyed a fine game,” added Dowlo.

Guisborough started the game brightly, moving the ball around well and finally made the breakthrough on 26 minutes through Nathan Evans, six minutes after Guisborough keeper Adrian Beblowski had saved a penalty, getting down well to his left to push the spot kick round the post. Chris Youldon doubled the Priorymen’s lead on 69 minutes when he broke clear of the Northallerton defence and fired low past the oncoming home keeper.

Paul Blake made it 3-0 in the 75th minute before substitute Connor Smith laid the ball off to Jordan Lee to make it an emphatic 4-0 final scoreline.

Guisborough have been drawn away to Liversedge in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday, 6 August. A coach for supporters will be running to the game at a very reasonable cost of £10 return – please contact Chris Wood on 07722 538 164 to book your place.
