Redcar Athletic bounced back from their shock midweek defeat, at home to Cleator Moor, by booking a cup final spot.

Redcar started well in this Shipowners Trophy Semi Final and their first chance of taking the lead came in the 3rd minute when Liam Wood played the ball down the right to Michael Woodhouse, who got to the byline before pulling it back to Joel Callander, 10 yards out but he lifted his shot over the bar. Just 2 minutes later Liam Wood started off another move, this time he found Chris Atkinson on the right and he picked out Andy Jennings in the box, but he too fired his shot over the bar. In the 28th minute Liam Wood squared the ball to Andy Jennings some 40 yards out from goal but the striker let fire with a ferorious shot which Leam Rangers keeper Neil Postlethwaite did well to tip onto the crossbar at full stretch.

Redcar Athletic missed a golden opportunity to take the lead on 56 minutes when Joel Callander played Andy Jennings into box and his low ball found Chris Atkinson in front of an open goal 4 yards out, but he miskicked the ball past the left hand post. On 70 minutes Sam Webster's free kick from the left bounced high off the ground in the area and Liam Wood coming in behind the Leam Rangers defence planted his header against the middle of the crossbar. The deadlock was finally broken on 79 minutes when Liam Wood's right wing cross into the area was headed down by Chris Atkinson and although JOEL CALLANDER scuffed his low shot it had enough power to squeeze it's way past keeper Neil Postlethwaite into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
