Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week with a number of events celebrating the work of apprentices across the borough, culminating in a charity abseil in Guisborough.

Starting next Monday, March 14 council apprentices and those from partner organisations will be taking part in a number of activities to highlight the wide variety of apprenticeship roles available to young people.

As well as the abseil from Guisborough Viaduct, activities taking place during the week include the completion of an accessibility scheme at Kirkleatham Museum allowing wheelchair users to better explore the site’s woodland as well as a team from the council competing in an ‘It’s a Knockout’ style event featuring teams from other Tees Valley authorities.

More than 45 apprentices currently work for Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council in areas ranging from social work to Saltburn’s Victorian Cliff Lift as well as legal, HR and neighbourhoods.

A mouthwatering local derby clash featuring two of our areas football teams takes place this evening.

Guisborough Town FC take on Marske United in the semi-final of the North Riding Senior Cup tonight, and both the Priorymen and the Seasiders are taking the match extremely seriously.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm  at the King George V Stadium on Howlbeck Road in Guisborough.

A pitch inspection will be taking place this afternoon in the event of adverse weather conditions.
