A round up of Local News in Redcar and Cleveland for 8th February 2016

A number of arrests were made at the weekend in connection with a spate of recent garage burglaries in Redcar.

On Friday night, officers from Redcar Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested a man in Redcar, and as a result of his arrest, two further males were arrested in the very early hours of Saturday.

The men were taken into custody and dealt with by officers at Middlesbrough.

As we reported on Zetland FM last week, a number of garages in the Calder Grove area of Redcar have had their locks damaged recently, with a couple of them having been entered and property stolen.

Anyone with any information regarding the damage to the garages is asked to call 101 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

A new exhibition in the Palace Arts rear gallery is set to open this coming weekend.

The exhibition, which is entitled 'Steel', runs from this coming Saturday 13th February through to Sunday 13th of March, and could hardly be a more appropriately themed show for Redcar.

The exhibition includes work which is on loan from Kirkleatham Museum, and a variety of new work from local artists in a range of media.

As a special feature of the exhibition, painter Alan Morley will effectively be moving his studio into the gallery and working on a newly commissioned painting. During the exhibition there will be opportunities to see the work in progress over a number of weeks and to talk with the artist while he works.

The Palace Arts gallery is located on the ground floor of the Palace Hub, on the esplanade in Redcar, and is open until 4pm every day except Thursdays.

There were mixed results for the areas football teams at the weekend.

Guisborough Town obtained a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Ashington at the King George the Fifth Stadium.  The win and welcome three points keep the Priorymen in second place in the table but with leaders Shildon also winning away at Durham, it means there is still a five-point gap between first and second.

Guisborough's next match is against York City's Academy Side in the much-postponed North Riding Senior Cup Quarter Final tie which has been switched at York's request to the King George the Fifth Stadium tomorrow evening - kick-off is at 7.45pm.

Meanwhile Redcar Athletic were expecting a tough encounter against Sunderland West End at the weekend - and they got it. The pitch had to pass an inspection due to a heavy downpour an hour before kick off but it was deemed playable by the referee.

However Athletic came away the losers of the match with the final score Sunderland West End 3, Redcar Athletic 0.
