A round up of Local News in Redcar and Cleveland for 23rd November 2015.

Police are appealing for a driver who stopped his car to help the victim of an attempted robbery and a dog walker who may have seen the suspect run off to contact them. One man driving a people carrier pulled up to help when he saw the 51 year old woman being attacked on Mansfield Road in Eston at around 7pm on Friday.

The woman was leaving an address when she was approached by a man who ran towards her before dragging her to the ground. The suspect threatened the woman with a knife and tried to steal her handbag. Fortunately he was disturbed by members of the public and he ran off along Mansfield Road towards Bankfields Primary School. The victim attended James Cook University Hospital for treatment to cuts and bruising to her head and body.

The suspect is described as between 5’8” and 6’ tall, of medium build and wearing a dark hooded top, with his face covered. A second man is believed to be involved; he is described as of slim build and wearing dark clothing. Both men had been seen acting suspiciously on Mansfield Road prior to the incident.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnesses the incident or seen anyone acting suspicious in the area. In particular they believe the driver of the people carrier and the man walking his dog may have useful information. Please contact DC Glen Harland on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A popular childrens television programme has visited the Redcar Lifeboat Station to record the work of the RNLI volunteers there. Milkshake presenter Amy Thompson visited and met volunteer crew member Dan Birkbeck, to learn about the charity's work in the town. As well as seeing the lifeboats in action, Amy was shown the kit the crew wear when they go out on a rescue mission.

Dan, who joined the Redcar crew as a trainee earlier this year, said: "It was a lot of fun talking to Amy. The RNLI is keen to start educating children as young as possible about how to enjoy the beach without getting into danger. We have an easy-to-remember message for them, the SAFE message."

The RNLI SAFE message is designed to give young children simple safety advice – Spot the dangers; Always go with a friend or an adult; Find and follow the safety signs and flags; Emergency – put up your hand and shout or dial 999/112.

Dan added: "I'm sure the children who watch the programme will quickly pick up the message. Once they've learned it, hopefully they'll remember it for the rest of their lives. And seeing the work the RNLI volunteers do at the lifeboat station, who knows, maybe they'll become fundraisers for the charity or even be volunteer crew members when they get older."

The Channel 5 programme Milkshake! featuring the Redcar volunteers is due to be broadcast on Wednesday 25 November, between 6am and 9.15am. For more information on the RNLI's SAFE message for young people, go to http://www.rnli.org/shorething

A £25,000 surprise awaits one lucky Guisborough resident, who has scooped People's Postcode Lottery's Saturday Street Prize. Their postcode, TS14 7LR, was this weekend's big winner. On Saturday People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt called at the house, on Blackmore Close in Guisborough and knocked on the door with the TV cameras rolling. However Judie wasn't able to catch up with the lucky player, as they weren't in at the time.

Instead the prize money will go straight into the lucky player's bank account just in time for Christmas! Judie said; "£25,000 is an incredible prize for one of our players to receive, and I'm sure the winner in Guisborough will get a lovely surprise when they find out they've won!"
