A round up of Local News in Redcar and Cleveland for 20th November 2015.

The founder of Saltburn 500 Club and Saltburn in Bloom is to be awarded the Freedom of Redcar and Cleveland. A recommendation that Jackie Taylor MBE be awarded the prestigious honour was approved at yesterday’s meeting of the Borough Council, with several councillors paying tribute to Jackie - who has been the driving force behind a number of major initiatives in the town.

Ms Taylor’s nomination was supported by Redcar and Cleveland Mayor, Councillor Brenda Forster, who said Jackie motivated people around her to get involved in their community.

Tributes have been paid to a cancer patient who fulfilled her dream of marrying her husband less than three weeks ago, after she lost her battle against the disease. Annalise Scott, who was 45 and from Redcar, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer five months ago, which had spread to her bowel, appendix and spine. In light of the diagnosis, Miss Scott wanted to marry her partner immediately and they planned their wedding day in just 24 hours.

As we reported on Zetland FM, the wedding service was held at the Trinity Holistic Centre, at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough on October 29th. Although the disease left Annalise barely able to stand, she managed to walk down the aisle on her big day, wearing an ivory wedding dress and a delicate rose bouquet. Now her husband, Kev Wilson, also from Recar, has promised to ensure his wife's dying wish to be buried wearing her wedding dress is carried out. Kevin has also paid tribute to everyone who helped care for his wife, including the staff on ward 14 at James Cook, Teesside Hospice, the Trinity Holistic Centre, and the Macmillan Nurses.

An annual event is taking place to mark Carers Rights Day today, at the 25K Youth Community Centre to raise awareness of the needs of carers. The event is organised by Carers Together, in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. It aims to bring together carers and organisations in order to help carers find out how to get the support they are entitled to, whether this is financial or practical support. There will be a series of presentations and table discussions during the course of the day.

The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Brenda Forster will be at the event. She told Zetland FM that she is looking forward to attending and helping to raise awareness of the needs of carers with decision makers, professionals and the public.
