Cleveland firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at a scrapyard on King George Terrace in South Bank this afternoon (Sunday).

It was reported around 2.20pm and at it's height, seven applicances plus a hydraulic platform were fighting the fire, which could be seen from the Redcar area and Middlesbrough Centre.

Firefighters got the blaze under control within an hour and used a ground monitor, two hose reel jets plus breathing apparatus and a thermal image camera at the scene.

Damage at the yard, belonging to Phoenix Autos, consisted of a storage shed destroyed, along with the window frames and glass of a nearby office building. It's not known at this time how the fire started.

Old Station Road was closed off for a time by Police but has since reopened.
