Local residents will be able to put questions to Assistant Chief Constable Simon Nickless from the comfort of their living room, when he hosts a ‘Community Click’ web chat today (Wednesday 26th)  from 6pm until 7pm.

The focus of the virtual session is to allow people to find out about our commitment to communities, how the Force is addressing demand and how policing has changed over recent times.

The chat follows the publication of an infographic showing the demand placed on the Force on a ‘typical day’ and the nature of calls into the control room. It highlighted that Cleveland Police receives an average of 11 missing person reports per day, which takes around 18 hours of police time to resolve.

In addition to this, the Force undertakes proactive work to support 660 high risk domestic abuse victims, 845 children and young people subject to child protection, and manages around 30 organised crime groups, and approximately 669 sexual offenders.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Nickless said: “When we released the infographic, I think people were surprised to learn the scope of policing in 2015 and the range of work our officers and staff do every day to keep people safe in Cleveland.

“It’s important that we maintain open and honest dialogue with our communities, and the web chat is another way to allow us to engage with people who might not want to or be able to attend a public meeting.

“We’re still active in our communities, tackling crime and disrupting criminals – we’re one step ahead – but that’s largely thanks to our plans to adapt the Force and collaborate with our neighbours. I know residents want to hear about these plans and about how we deploy our resources, so I would urge them to log on and put a question forward. The message from me is that we are here to help, and will continue to build on new ways to engage with local people.”
