Ping Pong tables will take over the borough this summer as a new table tennis festival launches.

The campaign will last four weeks and aims to get both adults and children involved in the sport.

As well as free-play, each table features "random acts of ping pong", a varied programme of master classes, competitions and other free activities.

The project is funded by Sport England and organised through Tees Valley Sport in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Middlesbrough Council, Everyone Active and Ormesby and Swerve Table Tennis Club.

Councillor Pallister, Cabinet Member for Health and Housing at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said:

"This is a fantastic campaign to get more people into the sport of table tennis and a great way for people of all ages to take part and enjoy themselves.

"Hopefully the adults and young people of our borough can give the talented junior players Paul Smith and Alec Ward a challenge. We might even discover a new Olympic hopeful right here in Redcar and Cleveland."

There will be Aerobic Ping Pong, a large table tennis table to play with big bats and a Demonstration and Challenge session with the talented junior players Paul Smith and Alec Ward, both top 10 in England under 18s.

The launch will take place on Wednesday 17 June at the Redcar & Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart from 12:30pm.

This will be followed by open sessions that everyone is welcome to attend.

To find a table to take part, please visit: www.pingmiddlesbrough.co.uk and simply borrow a bat from the side of the table and play.
