Visitors to Redcar & Cleveland can take a trip to another century as Kirkleatham Museum transforms itself into a Victorian wonderland.

Running this weekend, December 6 & 7, the free ‘A Victorian Christmas’ event is set to provide fun for all the family with a range of activities to keep everyone entertained.

From meeting the reindeers to enjoying some Christmas delicacies, visitors across the weekend won’t be bored and with the Victorian craft fair there is the opportunity for a spot of Christmas shopping and the potential to pick up a unique gift.

Complementing the crafts on sale are workshops for children so they can make the perfect Christmas window decoration or items to go on the tree.

With Victorian characters getting people in the mood for Christmas with Carol singing, kids can have the opportunity to wish for some more 21st century presents as Santa’s Grotto gives them the chance to spell out their wish list!

Cllr Olwyn Peters, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Being able to step back into the 19th century is a very unique experience we hope all the family can enjoy. It will allow people to see what Christmas was like more than 100 years ago and hopefully visitors will go home having learnt something new.”

‘A Victorian Christmas’ runs from 10.00am until 3.30pm on Saturday and Sunday with admission free, Santa’s Grotto is £3.50 per child with the price for craft making sessions varying depending on what is being made.
