An accident on a major road in our area caused major traffic disruption at rush hour yesterday.

There were long tailbacks on the A19 southbound following reports of a crash involving a HGV just after 4pm.

Emergency services attended the scene between the Norton Interchange and the Portrack Interchange.

Motorists travelling south on the A19 faced delays of around 20 minutes, with traffic also building on the northbound lane opposite the incident site.

The incident was cleared shortly after 5pm however traffic remained busy in the area.

A scheme to improve 14 seafront properties in the Coatham (pron "Coat-um") area of Redcar has been confirmed as costing more than £250,000.

The cost is being funded by the Government’s Town Deal which in 2021 allocated £25m towards various projects drawn up by a Town Deal board for Redcar.

A contract awarded by Redcar and Cleveland Council for the planned works amounts to £253,951 with a contingency of £30,000 on top to cover unforeseen items.

They will involve redecorating the facades of the buildings in Newcomen Terrace in contrasting colours, completing minor guttering and pipe works and making repairs to rendering.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have announced that works will soon begin on an extension of Eston cemetery.

Works to expand the cemetery, which has reached its full capacity, will start next week.

In order to create the necessary additional grave space, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council will extend the cemetery boundary, with works due to start in the coming days.

To make the extension possible, the boundary fence, separating the cemetery from adjacent land, which runs along the cremated remains plot, will need to be removed.

The fence will be replaced with boxed hedging – with planting to be completed in the upcoming months – which will improve the landscaping of the area.

The council says that all works will be undertaken carefully and respectfully with minimum disturbance to ensure that improvements will be completed safely and seamlessly.
