A man has been arrested after being stopped and searched by police in Middlesbrough.

The 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article, after he was stopped by officers from the Proactive Team.

As the team were carrying out routine patrols in areas of Middlesbrough on Monday, they stopped the man at 7:40pm on Parliament Road.

When officers searched him, the found a lock knife and he was arrested.  

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he was remanded for sentencing on 22nd December.

 

Two businessmen have been fined after concerns were raised over fire safety measures at a premises in Middlesbrough.

Kambiz Kamyab and Russell Karl Mills, who are the owners of the premises on Borough Road in the town centre, were fined and ordered to pay costs of more than £11,000 after a hearing at Teesside Magistrates' Court.

An inspection of the site was carried out in April 2022 after residents raised concerns to fire safety officers.

The flats above were occupied by four residents within three flats at the time - with another flat being used for storage.

Officers sought and issued a prohibition notice for the flats which resulted in all four residents being rehoused. 

One experienced fire officer described the fire safety provision provided for the premises as being the "worst he had ever seen."

 

Cleveland Police have launched their national Christmas drink and drug drive initiative with checks carried out on 215 drivers at the weekend.

On Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, officers carried out tests for alcohol and drugs on 215 drivers by stopping them on Cargo Fleet Lane, Acklam Road and Newport Road in Middlesbrough. 

Five people were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and two under the influence of drugs. 

The campaign launches nationally throughout December and into early January.
