Three people have been arrested and a firearm recovered after armed police descended on a busy Teesside road.

Witnesses reported armed officers on the A174 eastbound, just before Kirkleatham Museum, at about 8pm, on Friday.

A cordon was placed at the scene while investigations appeared to centre around a white vehicle.

Multiple police vehicles attended and officers guarded the Redcar scene. Cleveland Police has since confirmed two men aged 27 and 29 have been arrested and charged.

The force has confirmed the pair appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A 27-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of firearms offences but has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police have confirmed they recovered a firearm at the scene.

Permission has been refused to convert a former care home in South Bank into potential accommodation for students and young professionals.

The plans were put forward for the former Primrose Court home, in Normanby Road, and sought a change of use to a 23-bed House in Multiple Occupation.

The former care home was placed up for sale earlier this year after its closure was announced at short notice, with alternative accommodation having to be found for 15 elderly patients with dementia.

The plans attracted more than 40 comments from neighbours, with all but one objecting.

An event for residents in our area who are struggling with the current cost of living is taking place today.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Health Improvement Team have organised a Cost of Living Crisis Community drop-in session at Boosbeck Village Hall today between 1.30 – 3.30pm.

Residents are encouraged to pop in and speak to the services, which include, Cleveland Fire Brigade UK , Affordable Warmth Team, Redcar and Cleveland Citizens Advice, Beyond Housing  and RCBC Health Improvement Team, who’ll be on hand to offer advice, guidance and support on a range of topics.
