A body has been found in the search for a missing man from our area.

Cleveland Police has confirmed officers searching for missing Guisborough man Liam Higgins sadly recovered a body yesterday.

In an earlier appeal, officers said the 29-year-old was last seen on Monday morning in Guisborough town centre.

Formal identification is yet to take place, however Liam's family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

A dog owner has been sent to prison after his former partner was mauled by his dog.

Teesside Crown Court heard that 26-year-old Matthew Graham, of Loftus, was being arrested in his home when he "set his dog" on others.

The attack took place on June 30, last year, in South Bank and left the woman with a serious wound to her calf.

A sentencing hearing heard that Mr Graham used his dog as a weapon during the incident on Passfield Crescent.

Mr Graham, of Humber Close, pleaded guilty in the magistrates' court to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control which caused injury.

He was given a 27-month prison sentence.

The Annual Canvass of Electors is under way in our area, with canvassers out and about in the borough until the end of the month.

The Canvass takes place every year to make sure the Electoral Register is as up to date as possible.

Canvassers will be visiting properties where the occupants were required to respond to their Canvass Communication Letter which was sent at the start of August, but haven’t yet done so.

They will be confirming the details of those living at a property. If any additions are needed residents may also be asked for their nationality, date of birth, and national insurance number.

You can find out more about the Annual Canvass by visiting the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
