Emergency services were called to Skelton at the weekend after a shed fire spread to nearby house.

Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to Kirkstall Court in the early hours of yesterday morning to tackle the blaze.

Four fire appliances were called to the scene at 1.46am and remained there for almost two hours.

The blaze in the shed spread to the house, destroying the conservatory and badly damaging the ground floor of the property.

Plans to create a new caravan park on farmland near Brotton have been refused.

Nine hardstanding pitches could have been created at Barns Farm, on Saltburn Road, along with new vehicle access and ten car parking spaces.

However officers at Redcar and Cleveland Council deemed the development would fundamentally change the landscape of the site and the surrounding area and would be contrary to various planning policies.

Highway safety concerns were also raised.

Some neighbours also objected in submissions made to the council earlier this year.

They warned that there could be a precedent set for similar developments if planning permission was granted.

The volunteer crews of the Redcar RNLI Lifeboat were called into action in our area at the weekend.

Yesterday morning the Atlantic 85 lifeboat crew was diverted from a training exercise to search for a dog that was believed to be swimming out to sea from the beach between Redcar and Marske.

After searching along the beach and to a distance of three quarters of a mile from the beach the lifeboat was stood down and nothing was found.

The lifeboat was then able to return to the lifeboat station at Redcar.
