Cleveland Fire Brigade have issued a warning after two recent fires involving e-scooters and e-bikes.

The first incident saw the living room of a home in North Ormesby left "severely damaged" after batteries were left on charge for a child's electric bike.

The second blaze left the hallway of a home in Middlesbrough "badly damaged" after an e-scooter electrical charging point caught fire.

Cleveland Fire Brigade has urged people that extreme care is needed when charging lithium batteries for and type of Personal Light Electronic Vehicle, which includes e-scooters, e-bikes, and uniwheels.

Emergency services were called to Albert Road on Sunday evening after a fire broke out, causing damage to two buildings along the busy street.

It is not currently known which buildings were involved in the incident.

Police cordoned off the major town centre road to deal with the incident.

Cleveland Fire Brigade initially sent three engines to the scene but later confirmed that five were in attendance.

All people were accounted for during the incident, with ten breathing apparatuses used.

 

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are asking for the opinions of residents in our area as they work to improve air quality in our area.

Air pollution is associated with a wide range of adverse health issues.

The council is working together with Middlesbrough Council to create the South Tees Clean Air Strategy, which is titled ‘As Clean As It Can Be’.

The council would like to hear the views of resident on how they can improve the current draft strategy.
