A man who pleaded guilty to causing the death of a taxi driver has been sentenced at Teesside Crown Court.
In March last year, 33-year-old James Hobson's vehicle collided at speed with Malik Ameer Abbas' Volkswagen in Marton and tragically Mr Abbas died instantly at the scene.
Yesterday Mr Hobson received a sentence of 7 years and 4 months for causing death by dangerous driving.
He was also banned from driving for nearly 12 years.
It's been announced that a woman's cycling event that was set to break ground in Guisborough has been postponed.
The Women’s Tour, which is an award-winning and 'trailblazing' cycle race, is set to take a one-year hiatus this year, citing a combination of increased running costs and a reduced level of commercial support.
The event organisers said that running costs were approximately 20% higher compared to last year's race.
The news comes just weeks after the event was confirmed to take place at Dalby Forest and Guisborough.
Organisers say that they are now starting to organise plans for next year's edition of the event, which will mark 10 years since the tour began.
Nominations are now open for people who wish to stand as councillors at the upcoming elections in Redcar and Cleveland.
The polls will be taking place across our area on Thursday May 4th, and nominations are now open for those who want to run for election.
Councillors play a huge role in their local communities, and you can find out more about the role and what is involved by visiting the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 4th April.
