Cleveland Police have arrested 24 people and seized more than £160,000 worth of drugs during a week of action tackling county lines.

County Lines Intensification week, which commenced on Monday, February 27th, saw officers in Cleveland join other police forces across the country taking part in the week of action.

County lines is when children or vulnerable people are exploited or coerced by organised crime groups into transporting, selling and/or storing illegal drugs or money.

During the operation, several warrants were executed in Redcar and Cleveland, and also in Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool, which led to a number of arrests.

More than £150,000 of cash was seized, along with drugs and weapons.

A major Team GB rowing event is on the cards for a our area this summer.

Hopes are high that Redcar's Majuba Beach will be confirmed as host for the Beach Sprint/Coastal Rowing GB Team Trials in June.

The event will see athletes compete to be selected to represent their country at the upcoming World Beach Games in Bali and at the World Beach Sprint Finals in Italy.

It is yet to be fully confirmed but if approved, likely dates are June 10 and 11 this year.

The sport is a fast-moving version of rowing with competitors running on the sand and leaping into boats then rowing a short course in the sea close to - and visible from - the shore.

The trials will also combine tests for athletes at Tees Rowing Club on the River Tees at Stockton if it gets the go ahead.Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are asking residents for their opinions on local library services.

Focus group sessions are being held to give residents the opportunity to ask questions about library services, talk about what the library means and what services should be offered in future.

The next sessions are being held this coming Monday, at Guisborough Library between 10 and 11am, and Redcar Library between 1 and 2pm.

Spaces are very limited, so if you would like to attend you should ask a member of staff in one of the libraries, or call the Contact Centre on 01642 774774.
