Cleveland Police has referred itself to the complaints watchdog following an arrest in Grangetown on Wednesday.

The force says it has voluntarily referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, in order to ensure an independent assessment of the incident, which will include a full review of the body worn video footage.

The force says it takes matters of officer conduct extremely seriously, making sure that any behaviours falling short of the optimum level are dealt with appropriately.

The video has circulating of the incident on social media, and the man who was arrested has been released on police bail.

Fire crews were called to a newly opened convenience store following reports of smoke on the premises.

Two engines from Cleveland Fire Brigade were spotted at One Stop, on Acklam Road in Middlesbrough, at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to clear the smoke, and later confirmed there was no fire.

They left the scene just after quarter past eleven.

Officers from Eston Neighbourhood Policing Team seized a number of vehicles over the weekend, after patrolling the local area and acting on intelligence from the public.

While on patrol on Thursday 23rd February, officers located and recovered a van in Teesville which was being sought by police.

Other recoveries included a quad bike in Lazenby, a motorbike in Eston, and potentially stolen vehicles which were being stored at a property in South Bank.

Police say that enquiries are ongoing.
