The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called into action in our area yesterday.

Just after midnight the team were contacted by ambulance crews who were en route to a report of a man who had fallen down an embankment on the North Yorkshire Moors National Park near to Danby Head.

The casualty was located approximately 20-feet down an embankment not far from the roadside.

As he was unable to move he was lifted onto a rescue stretcher before being carried by Team members up to the top of the embankment using a rope system.

Once at the top he was taken into the ambulance for further assessment at hospital.

Long-awaited plans have been lodged for the new Southlands Centre in east Middlesbrough.

The £3.7m facility will have a single-storey community hub that includes a hall, a community café, and office space.

The existing multi-use games area will be refurbished and there will also be a new sports zone with two nine-a-side natural turf pitches and a 3G all-weather pitch.

It will be built in phases with the main single-storey centre being started first followed by an upgrade of the sporting facilities. The new hub will engage with a range of public, private and third-sector organisations.

Officers from the Economic Crime Unit are warning members of the public about courier fraud following a number of concerning reports where people have been targeted in the Teesside area.

People are targeting callers over the phone and claiming to be from the bank or police and are demanding money to be sent to them via a Post Office.

The cold callers are very convincing and will call several times a day and often manage to convince people to co-operate with them.

Sometimes they will persuade victim's to be receivers of money packages in the post and demand for them to post the parcels onto another address.

If you have been a victim of courier fraud or know someone who has, please report this to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or Cleveland Police on 101.
