The family of a man who died a year after he was violently assaulted has paid tribute to their loved one as his attacker was jailed for his manslaughter.

40-year-old Mark Robinson was violently attacked by 36-year-old Ray Whincup in a friend’s flat on Station Road in Redcar at the end of July 2020.

Mark, who lived in Guisborough at the time of the incident, sustained devastating and life changing injuries from which he never recovered, and died just over a year later, in August 2021.

On Tuesday, Mr Whincup pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Robinson.

He received a ten year sentence at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

A woman has been taken to hospital following a crash in Middlesbrough.

Emergency services were called to Kings Road at around 1pm yesterday after reports that a car had crashed into a lamppost.

Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire Brigade and the North East Ambulance Service all attended the scene where one woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital to be treated for her injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have announced that a busy car park in our area will be closed tomorrow.

The Majuba Road Car Park will be closed between 7am and 6pm due to a production company filming at the location.

No details of the filming have been released, however the council says that more information will be revealed soon.

The council have apologised for any inconvenience the closure may cause.
