Police responded with extra patrols yesterday after the presence of a large number of trial bikes in the Grangetown area sparked a number of calls to officers.

Cleveland Police said it received several calls regarding a large number of bikers in the area yesterday ahead of a funeral which was taking place in Stockton.

The force said a number of officers were already in attendance in the area.

No further details have been given about the funeral.

A driver alleged to have been speeding at 65mph on a 30mph road was amongst those found during a week-long speeding campaign in our area.

Officers found numerous motorists allegedly driving above the speed limit during the week-long campaign, which began on Monday 17th October.

Examples in the Redcar and Cleveland area include a driver allegedly speeding at 46mph on the B1380 in Eston, and a driver allegedly speeding at 43mph on Whitby Road in Loftus, both of which are 30mph roads.

A total of 320 alleged speeding offences were detected during the campaign.

Two businesses are moving into the former Barclays Bank building in Loftus following investment of funding in the town.

After being restored to its former glory, the building opened its doors for the visitor accommodation this week, welcoming visitors from far and wide.

There are also plans for a bridal boutique opening in December.

It's all part of a wider regeneration scheme for the East Cleveland town.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council secured the freehold of the building in December 2019, with the goal of bringing it back to life and boosting community and business confidence in the high street.
