Two people had to be taken to hospital following a crash that closed one lane of the A66 during rush hour yesterday.

Drivers were hit by delays when three cars collided on the A66 westbound carriageway, near Cineworld.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 20 past 8.

Cleveland Police confirmed that a blue Vauxhall Zafira, a silver Kia Xceed and a red Peugeot 308 were involved in the collision which saw one lane of the A66 closed to allow police to deal with the incident.

The closure caused congestion and tailbacks during rush hour when many people were travelling into work.

Police confirmed there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident, however one driver was said to be suffering from chest pains.

It's been announced that Fisherman’s Square car park in Redcar is next in line to have electric vehicle charging points installed.

The work is part of a programme to improve the electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the borough.

The work will take place between Monday and Friday next week, and access to some of the parking bays will be restricted during this time, whilst the improvements are completed.

A '30-point cost of living action plan' has been launched by Redcar & Cleveland Council to provide additional help and support to local residents through the cost of living crisis.

As energy bills soar and the cost of the weekly shop escalates, the council is putting additional support in place for those struggling in the borough.

The plan will deliver a variety of actions, ranging from warm spaces in public buildings across the borough for those residents who are struggling to heat their homes, targeted information on the latest help and advice, and warm and well packs for vulnerable residents.

There'll also be help and advice on healthy cooking on a budget, extra mental wellbeing support, welfare rights events in community venues and free hot meals for residents with no family support.

For further information, help and advice visit the cost of living page on the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
