Local tributes have been coming in from across Redcar and Cleveland following the news yesterday that Her Majesty the Queen had died.

Simon Clarke, the MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said that the queen was an extraordinary monarch and that her love for Prince Philip, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was clear for all to see.

Redcar MP Jacob Young said that during her reign, the Queen's sense of duty and devotion to a life of service has been a constant pillar of stability through periods of enormous social change, and many of the most significant chapters in our nation's history.

The Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland, Cllr Stuart Smith said that Her Majesty had served the country with honour, grace and sensitivity, over a remarkable period of time as the longest reigning British Monarch, and that throughout both happy and challenging times, she was an inspirational figure to us all and always put her country first.

Following the death of the Queen, the Union flag has been lowered to half-mast at the Redcar Civic Centre and public buildings in the Borough and will remain lowered until 8am on the morning following the Queen’s funeral.

A Book of Condolence will be opened at the Redcar Civic Centre today from 09.00 am to 7.00 pm and will remain open until 5pm on the day following the funeral.

And in other news this morning...

Officers have seized suspected drugs and weapons from a property in our area as part of Operation Resolve.

On Tuesday 30th August officers carried out a warrant at an address on Harwal Road in Redcar after reports of antisocial behaviour related to suspected drugs.

Police recovered an air pistol, suspected class C drugs, a large sword, a knife, a baton and mobile phones believed to be used in the supply of drugs.

No arrests were made, however, enquiries are continuing and officers will continue to listen to the public and seek to carry out warrants at properties which are believed to be used to deal drugs.

Anyone with information regarding drugs activity in our local area is asked to contact their local neighbourhood policing team on the non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
