A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in Guisborough;

Firefighters were called to tackle a large fire in a cornfield near Skelton yesterday afternoon;

...and Police are appealing for witnesses to a report of assault at a pub in our area.

 

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in Guisborough.

​Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have charged the boy with murder after 62-year-old Alan Garbutt from East Cleveland died following an alleged incident at Helmsley House in Guisborough on Monday.

The boy has been remanded in custody and will appear in court later today.

A 43-year-old man and a 28-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder have been released with no further action.

Another 28-year-old man and a 47-year-old man have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 45-year-old man and two women aged 23 and 68 arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Police say that this is still an active investigation and are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

 

Firefighters were called to tackle a large fire in a cornfield near Skelton yesterday afternoon.

Six appliances from Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to the blaze on Stanghow Road in Skelton at 5.25pm yesterday evening, with the fire reportedly spreading rapidly due to the dry conditions.

The fire brigade took social media to urge residents to avoid the area as they tackle the ongoing fire.

Reports on social media suggest that the fire was becoming larger and was quickly spreading across the field.

As well as fire engines, Cleveland Fire Brigade also have two off road vehicles in attendance at the blaze close to Skelton high street.

 

Police are appealing for witnesses to a report of assault at a pub in our area.

The incident happened around 9:30pm on Monday at the Blue Bell public house on Acklam Road in Middlesbrough.

A 36-year-old man suffered a laceration to his arm during the incident but did not attend hospital.

A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of GBH and was bailed with conditions whilst enquiries continue.

Any witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have further information is asked to contact police on 101.
