A dispersal order has been authorised for the central Redcar area as a result of recent incidents of antisocial behaviour.

This means that for anyone involved in antisocial behaviour in the designated area or that police believe will become involved in such behaviour, they can be directed to leave immediately.

If the person does not leave immediately or returns within the specified period, then they can be arrested.

The area covered is bounded by The Esplanade, including the Redcar Beacon, West Terrace, West Dyke Road to the access road to the South of Tesco store, then across to Lumley Road  and through to Redcar Lane, Park Avenue to the roundabout with Granville Terrace and back along Granville Terrace back to The Esplanade.

The Order commenced at noon yesterday and will run for 48 hours, which is the maximum period allowed in law.

Police say that they will consider if further orders are necessary after that.

Officers say that they will be patrolling throughout this period of the order and will be taking positive action.

A major manufacturer has dropped its plans for a turbine plant in our area after months of uncertainty.

General Electric had aimed to bring a huge turbine factory to the former Redcar steelworks site to help supply the enormous Dogger Bank wind farm.

As many as 750 direct jobs and another 1,500 in the supply chain had been promised.

However GE say that they have scrapped their plans for now - with the firm reported as saying it is “not moving forward with plans for a Teesside facility”.

A “lack of volume” has been reported as the reason for the move.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have apologised after problems with green waste collections in the Guisborough and Loftus areas yesterday.

The counci say that due to a temporary and unexpected driver shortage some garden or green waste was unable to be collected in outlying and farming areas around Guisborough and Loftus yesterday.

Some garden waste in narrow street and alley areas in central Guisborough was also unable to be collected.

The council says that collections teams are in action again today, and those affected are asked to present their garden waste again this morning.
