A local MP has resigned from the Government and called for Boris Johnson to quit saying the Prime Minister's position is 'no longer tenable'.
Jacob Young, the Conservative MP for Redcar, announced he is resigning as a parliamentary private secretary in the Department of Levelling Up and called for the Prime Minister to step aside to "allow the country to move forward".
In a social media post yesterday evening Mr Young said that he had agonised throughout the day.
He said he had supported the Prime Minister through thick and thin, and that it was because of his loyalty, that he now urged the prime minister to step aside and allow the country to move forward.
The call by Mr Young is a further severe blow to Boris Johnson, demonstrating that previously loyal 'red wall' MPs are now deserting him.
