There were major problems on roads in our area this morning following two separate accidents.

The first collision occurred just after 7am at Normanby Crossroads, involving a Volkswagen Scirocco and a Skoda Octavia taxi. Normanby Road was closed in both directions with diversions put in place whilst fire crews removed the roof of the taxi in order to free one of the occupants.

An injured person, believed to be the driver of the taxi, was taken by ambulance to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital.

In a separate incident, a man was taken to hospital following a serious collision between a scooter and a Vauxhall Vivaro van on Ormesby Road just before 8am.

Emergency services were called to the scene, between Cranmore Road and Ingram Road, and a man was taken to hospital with non life threatening head injuries.

Both accidents, and the subsequent road closures, caused major disruption on surrounding routes. Long queues of traffic were reported through Eston, Normanby, Ormesby, Flatts Lane and Ormesby Bank.
